Announcing the Celestia Foundation Delegation Program
Today the Celestia Foundation announces the launch of the Foundation validator delegation program. This initiative is a crucial step in the Celestia Foundation’s journey toward creating a fair Foundation delegation process that contributes to exceptional uptime performance for Mainnet Beta.
The program’s main goal is to implement a transparent delegation process to support the resilience and high uptime of Mainnet Beta. The process will also aim to ensure an equal opportunity for all participants to apply and receive delegation to their validator while upholding the values of the Celestia Foundation and ecosystem.
Program Launch and Validator Delegation Process
Starting from 1st February 2024, the program will open its doors for applications. Out of the 100 validator slots on Celestia Mainnet Beta, the Foundation will delegate to 50 under the program. The application process will last a month, after which the Foundation will assess and select the most suitable candidates for delegation.
The delegation will be divided into three tiers, with each tier receiving a different duration of delegation, ranging from 4 to 12 months. The Celestia Foundation will delegate to members in these cohorts every four months.
Eligibility and Criteria
The Foundation will assess applications to the program based on a comprehensive set of considerations. These primarily include the number of validators previously elected in earlier cohorts, overall network stability, and validator applicant quality. Other considerations include contributions to the Celestia ecosystem and geolocation.
